Andrew Verrett, DDS, MS
Dr. Verrett is a periodontist: a dental specialist in the gums and bone that support teeth and implants. He completed his surgical residency in the U.S. Air Force, is board certified, and owns Austin Periodontal Associates.
Training and Certification
Dr. Verrett grew up in Texas and earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at The University of Texas at Austin. He completed his dental degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, then his periodontics residency and a Master of Science in Dental Science through the U.S. Air Force program at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, the specialty’s board certification, earned in 2016 by written and oral examination on periodontal and implant surgery. He is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology.
Air Force Service
Dr. Verrett served six years as a periodontist in the U.S. Air Force. He was Chief of Periodontics at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, and taught periodontics to Air Force dentists in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Travis Air Force Base in California. Military practice meant a high surgical volume across every kind of case, from routine grafting to complex implant reconstruction, and a habit of writing clear reports for the dentists who would finish the work.
Practice
He returned to Austin and took ownership of Austin Periodontal Associates. He is the practice’s only doctor. Every consultation, every surgery, and every post-operative visit is with him.
His clinical interests are dental implants and the bone and soft-tissue procedures that make them last, treatment of gum recession, and regenerative treatment of periodontal disease. He treats patients under local anesthesia and under nitrous oxide, oral, and IV sedation.
How He Practices
- A diagnosis first. Treatment starts with an exam and imaging, not a procedure. If a tooth can be saved, he will say so. If it can’t, he will say that too.
- Written plans. You leave the consult with the plan, the sequence, and the estimate on paper.
- Your dentist stays in the loop. A written report goes to your referring dentist after every visit, and you return to your dentist for restorative care and alternating maintenance.
- Honest expectations. Recovery, risks, and the limits of what a procedure can do are part of the conversation before you decide.
