Frequently Asked Questions
What is a periodontist?
A dentist who completed three additional years of surgical residency in the gums and bone that support teeth, and in dental implants. Periodontists diagnose and treat gum disease, correct gum recession, place implants and build bone for them, and do the surgical procedures general dentists refer out.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
No. Most patients are referred by a dentist, but you can call us directly.
Will I still see my regular dentist?
Yes. Your dentist remains your primary dental provider. We treat the specific problem, send your dentist a report after every visit, and return you to them for restorative care and alternating maintenance.
Do you accept my insurance?
We are an out-of-network provider, but we will file your dental insurance claims on your behalf so you can receive reimbursement directly from your insurance company. Being out of network does not prevent you from being treated here or from using your benefits, and we verify what your plan is expected to pay before treatment.
Is treatment painful?
Procedures are done under local anesthetic, so you do not feel pain during them. Afterward, most patients describe soreness for a few days, managed with ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Sedation is available for anyone who prefers to be relaxed or unaware.
How soon can I be seen?
Referred patients are contacted the same business day the referral arrives and are usually offered a consult within the week. Patients who call directly will have their call returned as soon as possible during business hours, with the aim of responding the same business day, and are usually seen within two weeks.
Where are you and where do I park?
Suite 310 at 7800 North Mopac, at the Far West exit. Free visitor parking is on the third-floor parking deck, at the same level as our office door. ADA-accessible parking is in the front of the building or in the covered parking garage.
Do you treat children?
We treat children and teenagers for frenectomy and for gum grafting after orthodontics. For infant tongue tie, a pediatric dentist is the right first call.
Will I get a cost before I decide?
Yes. Every consult ends with a written plan and estimate, itemized by procedure, and we verify your insurance benefits before anything is scheduled.
Can I be sedated?
For most procedures, yes: nitrous oxide, oral sedation, or IV sedation, after a medical screening. Dr. Verrett holds a Texas State Board of Dental Examiners permit for moderate IV sedation.
Do I need a driver?
For oral or IV sedation, yes: a responsible adult who waits in our reception area, drives you home, and stays with you for at least two hours. For local anesthetic alone or nitrous oxide, you can drive yourself.
I take a blood thinner. Should I stop it?
No, not unless Dr. Verrett or your physician tells you to. Tell us at the consult; we coordinate with your physician if needed.
How is Dr. Verrett different from an implant center?
He is a board-certified periodontist who offers every option, including saving teeth that can be saved; he treats the gum and bone around implants for years afterward; and your own dentist stays involved. Implant centers usually offer one product.
What are your hours?
Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Closed Friday through Sunday.
